What are our key Thematic Areas in Transforming communities

COSSEDe is a legally registered Non Governmental Organization under the NGO Act of No. 24 of 2002 (with the Amendments made in 2015 and 2019). As per its Constitution, COSSEDe brings together individuals, professionals and/or organizations with proven expertise, experiences and institutional memories on community empowerment and development in both rural and urban areas. Membership to COSSEDe is therefore open to any person, natural or legal; with competence in the provision of community development services and who subscribes to the Organization as provided in that Constitution. Members who will be subscribing to COSSEDe are grouped as Founder Members; Ordinary Members; and Honorary members.

Based on its Vision, Mission and Objectives; the implementation of COSSEDe’s various day to day operations, activities and projects will be planned and coordinated under the three broad Key Thematic Areas namely Education, Economic Empowerment of Communities and Agriculture; by focusing on the following mentioned thematic issues for each of the Key Thematic Area:-

  1. Education with the focus on the following thematic issues:-

    1. Education for Critical Consciousness;

    2. Education for Liberation; and

    3. Education for Empowerment.

  2. Economic Empowerment of Communities with the focus on the following thematic issues:-

  3. Agriculture with the focus on the following key thematic issues:--

    1. Production and Productivity;

    2. Value addition and Marketing of agricultural products;

    3. Equitable sharing of proceeds between small scale farmers and large scale farmers/farm produce buyers, processors and marketers of smallholder farmer produced crops;

    4. Co-existence of traditional export vs non-traditional export crops in the community specific and customary farming systems; and

    5. Contract Farming Management.

Transforming Agriculture into an Industrial Powerhouse:

Due to its prime and eminent role on spearheading the enhancement of community socio-economic development transformations in both rural and urban areas of Tanzania; COSSEDe’s special and critical focus as it embarks on planning and implementing its various community empowerment and development related activities, operations and projects, will be directed towards promoting and supporting the establishment of small and medium scale agro-processing factories in the smallholder farming systems of Tanzania. The ultimate aim of all this, will be to empower the smallholder farmers to participate actively, effectively, commercially and profitably in all grown crops value chain stages and hence; incentivize them to rehabilitate their farms, expand their farm acreages and make use of improved farming technologies and practices for increased production and productivity.

Therefore, at all times COSSEDe will dedicate itself to eradicating poverty by revolutionizing the agricultural sector through advanced farming and industrialization. We believe that sustainable development begins with empowering local communities to harness modern farming techniques, improve productivity, and access better market opportunities. By combining innovation, education, and technology, we aim to uplift smallholder farmers and transform agriculture into a thriving sector that supports national growth and development. Our Organization will always stand for environmentally friendly practices, ensuring that our efforts contribute to food security and ecological sustainability for future generations.

As COSSEDE, we will also focus on industrializing agriculture as a pathway to community economic empowerment. Promotion of agro-processing industries will help farmers on processing their produces locally, adding value and reducing reliance on raw sales and exports of their produces. This approach not only creates jobs but also builds a resilient economy that supports sustainable livelihoods. As a national NGO, we are committed to collaboration with all community development stakeholders including the Government, Private Sector Organizations and Investors, Partner Local and Foreign NGOs, Development Partners, Political Leaders and Religious Leaders; towards achieving our vision of a poverty-free Tanzania through innovations and transformations in agriculture and other community development related sectors.

It is on the basis of the preceding research based evident facts that various activities, projects and/or operations to be planned for implementation under the other two COSSEDe’s Key Thematic Areas; are expected to greatly augment to bringing about the aspired transformations in Tanzania’s farming communities and agricultural sector at large.
